Leather vs Microfiber
The key differences between genuine leather and microfiber boxing gloves lie in the materials, durability, and maintenance:
Material
Genuine Leather: Made from animal hide (usually cowhide), known for its toughness and flexibility.
Microfiber: A synthetic material engineered to mimic leather, varying in quality but designed for performance.
Durability
Genuine Leather: Long-lasting with proper care, retains quality over time.
Microfiber: While standard microfiber is not as long-lasting as leather, Fairtex uses premium microfiber for enhanced durability to extend the life of your glove.
Maintenance
Genuine Leather: Requires conditioning and cleaning to prevent drying, cracking, and odor.
Microfiber: Easier to maintain, more moisture-resistant, and less prone to odor.
Choose based on your preferences, budget, and usage.
What size glove should I get?
Gloves are measured in ounces (oz), typically ranging from 8 oz to 20 oz. Your ideal size depends on weight, training type, and preference:
8-10 oz: Best for competition.
12 oz: Common for women and those with smaller hands.
14 oz: Suitable for general training and sparring.
16 oz: Standard for sparring and general training for most adults.
18-20 oz: Ideal for larger individuals or for extra protection during sparring.
Choose the size that matches your needs for comfort and protection.
What type of glove should I get?
Choosing the right gloves depends on your training goals. Fairtex offers gloves for various purposes:
Training Gloves: Versatile for general training, including bag and pad work.
Sparring Gloves: Softer, designed for sparring to reduce injury risk.
Bag Gloves: Built for heavy bag work, featuring denser padding for durability.
Competition Gloves: Lighter gloves used for official matches.

The glove will feel pretty tight at first, especially around the finger area. Takes a couple of wear to break in but once you do, it will feel amazing. They're holding up great so far and feels well made. Overall, totally worth it once you get past that initial stiffness.

I have been a fan of Fairtex products since the 90's. Now my son is training and I like the fact that Fairtex makes gloves small enough for his hands. 4oz is too small and 8oz is too big. The 6oz are perfect for his 7 year old hands.

They fit and feel great

I'm in my 50's and new to boxing/Muay Thai, but after just a few months the gloves I was using (training 4-5 times/week, 2 hours/day) were showing considerable wear. I talked to my trainers and heard several recommendations and decided to give these a shot after being impressed with the shin pads I've been using. They did not disappoint. Time will tell for sure, but they are more comfortable than the others, the stitching seems solid, and I my punches land cleaner (my old gloves seemed to be prone to land at odd angles resulting in wrist soreness). Good luck with whatever you choose, but these did not disappoint.

Excellent fit, lightweight, and comfortable right from the start. They’re perfect for fast punching combinations and heavy bag drills, and I’m very happy with my purchase. I am 5’o” petite and 12 0z was just right

A bit too roomy inside for my hands. I ordered BGV19 and I like the fit more because of the smaller hand compartment and how snug they are on my hands

Frequently Asked Questions
You've got questions? We've got answers!
Best gloves for mixed Muay Thai + Western boxing?
The Fairtex BGV1 excels at blending Muay Thai and Western boxing. Its firm multi-layer padding provides crisp, precise feedback on pads and bags, while the tight ergonomic fit and strong angled wrist support lock everything in securely, ideal for Muay Thai clinch work or powerful boxing punches and hooks. Handmade in Thailand, it offers authentic durability and true versatility for hybrid training, handling both styles reliably and consistently.
Best Fairtex gloves for beginners in the US?
For beginners in the US, the Fairtex BGV1 is an ideal starting glove. It's versatile for basic training like bag work, pads, and technique sessions, built with handmade Thai durability to last as you improve and train more often, and ships quickly from fairtexstore.com. The padding starts firm to support good technique and protection, but breaks in comfortably after a few sessions, giving you reliable pro-level gear from the start without needing an early upgrade. Many new trainees pick it because it grows with them and feels solid right away.
If I can afford only one pair, which Fairtex model works for bag, sparring, and pads?
If you can only get one pair for bag work, Thai pad rounds, and light-to-moderate sparring, the BGV1 is the go-to all-rounder. It's Fairtex's most trusted model: versatile for daily gym use, with firm multi-layer foam for solid impact absorption, secure wrist lockdown that stays firm, and handmade Thai durability that holds up reliably session after session without quick wear. Gyms and fighters worldwide depend on it when one dependable pair is all they need.
Top rated leather gloves for amateur boxing
Fairtex BGV1 gloves deliver premium leather quality with strong wrist support and protection suitable for amateur training. They receive excellent feedback for durability—available on fairtexstore.com.
Gloves that break in quickly but don’t go soft too fast?
The Fairtex BGV1 strikes a great balance here: it needs only a short break-in period (usually a few sessions) to mold comfortably to your hands and feel right, then the high-density, multi-layer foam stays firm and protective for months, even with regular heavy use, without turning soft, mushy, or losing its structure like some gloves do after break-in. Many users appreciate how it starts feeling good fast but keeps that solid, supportive feel session after session.
Which gloves reduce knuckle pain on the heavy bag?
The Fairtex BGV1 and BGV14 are excellent for reducing knuckle pain during heavy bag work. Their high-density, multi-layer foam does a great job absorbing repeated impact, whether you're doing straight boxing drills, kickboxing combos, or general striking sessions, without bottoming out quickly, so your knuckles stay protected even after long rounds. Many users notice significantly less soreness compared to gloves with thinner or softer padding that compresses too fast.
For teens, is it better to invest early or start cheaper?
From a cost-per-year standpoint, investing early in Fairtex like the BGV1 is the smarter choice for most teens. The handmade durability means 3–5+ years of reliable use through growth spurts and regular training, making the upfront cost far lower long-term than repeatedly replacing cheaper gear that wears out in 6–12 months.
