Stamp went to Singapore to take on Jihin Radzuan. The ONE Championship star was aware of Radzuan’s strengths.

“Jihin’s strengths are her wrestling and ground game. She is quite good at striking, but I think this is her weakness as well because if we trade with each other, I believe I have more experience in striking than her,” Stamp said.

It played out in the fight. Radzuan pressed Stamp against the cage wall and attempted takedowns. Stamp stuffed them and in the third landed a hellacious elbow that dropped Radzuan. The Shadow Cat was able to recover but not before Stamp jumped on top and rained down the blows. Stamp was able to control the fight and gained the judge’s nod.

Thai Ngan Le Learns New Vocabulary at

WPMTA show

Thai-Ngan Le of the USA took on Rungnapa Por Muangpetch at the Royal Airforce Stadium. The bout put on by the World Professional Muay Thai Association was a five round affair. Each round was two minutes with a two minute break. This rule set is typical for both upcountry female bouts, and for federation bouts like the WPMTA.

Rungnapa came in light to the 53kg fight and by the day of the weigh in, Thai Ngan Le had hydrated up an extra 4kg. The five rounds started slow with Le taking the lead round in the open scoring. The live scoring ended by the fourth round. The judges gave it to Rungnapa.

Le was confused by the scoring but learned a new Thai word/phrase: หน้าเสือ /Naa Sua. It is when the judges are swayed by the promoter or some other prominent figure at the show. Fights go to one fighter rather than the other because of “Naa Sua.”

Prem Busarabavongwongs Wins SAT Award

The Sports Authority of Thailand hosted its yearly awards. The SAT is the governing body for Muay Thai in the land of smiles. This year saw Prem Busarabavonwongs, the managing director of Fairtex Training Center and the CEO of Fairtex Fight win the Manager Of The Year award.

The manager was taken aback by the award.

“I’m surprised because I’m a new promoter/manager,” he said.

The Fairtex Fight show began this year. It shifted to a weekly show after being picked up by Channel 7 and Tero Entertainment. Busarabavonwongs led the charge and became a qualifier for ONE Championship. Also, he’s promoted female fighters. Nak Muay Ying at the famed stadium no longer have to go through the bottom rope. Rather they enter through the middle.

Athletes from Hemmers Gym in the Netherlands came to Fairtex to prepare for their upcoming bouts. The group included Nick Hemmers, the manager for the athletes, Alistair Overeem, Marat Grigorian, Errol Zimmerman, Bruno Chaves and others.

The group used “Dutch” style drills to get ready. The athletes wore shin pads and gloves and did focused sparring techniques. For example, Grigorian punched against his partner and then finished the lengthy combination with leg kicks.

The drills worked wonders and Grigorian landed the exact drill in his ONE Championship bout.

“It’s a system that we put into our fighters,” Nick Hemmers said. “I like working like this.”

The drills and system are a key to success for Hemmers’ team proven by Grigorian’s win over Tayfun Ozcan.
